I know about the usual light headedness/dizziness, but was wondering if people have other symptoms that suggest their BP is low? On a couple of occasions recently I have felt a bit 'spaced out' after my run, with a sort of flickering in my peripheral vision. It feels similar to some of my hypo symptoms, but BG was 5.1. As I have a home BP monitor I decided to test BP as well and it was 89/51 which is probably the lowest I've seen! Lately it has been around 100/65.

Also, what can you do about low BP to raise it or do you just have to wait for it naturally? It's not a problem I've had before! I think that I need to discuss stopping my BP meds with my GP.

Lots of salt and alcohol? :D

Incidentally have you been eating lots of leafy veg/beans recently? I became aware of magnesium a few months back, an excess of which can reduce BP it seems.

Perhaps you are dehydrated after your run ? Drinking plenty of fluids may help things. If it keeps happening see your doc. 🙂

Possibly, it was very hot this morning! I always drink plenty after I get back though. I think I probably don't need the pills as they are lowering my levels too far. If the GP agrees then that will mean that out of the 11 medications and two insulins I was on at diagnosis I will be down to one - novorapid! Even that is dropping, yesterday I had 18.5 units which is my lowest daily dose since I was diagnosed 🙂

I concur with this idea. I had a 'funny turn' in Romania on a particularly hot day and definitely put this down to being dehydrated (I'd a bit of Delhi-belly as well as it being hot). My symptoms were precisely the same as just after my liver biopsy when my BP plummeted to 42/25 (although not as bad)!!

But anyway, being properly hydrated definitely helps BP.

Andy 🙂

That very interesting - These days I seem to go to 90/60 and 85 - 90 BPM after exercise with BG 5 +/- .3. I used to feel very tired after this exercise.

Recently I estimated my salt equivalent intake for a week - about 15 gm. Since then Ive increased it to around 25gm per week. The result has been no significant change in BP, BG or heart rate BUT much less tiredness. I suspect that I was heading towards hyponatremia and the extra gm odd of salt per day is enough to keep me well the right side of low ( of course without blood tests I cant prove it ! )

The more you hydrate the more sodium will be washed out of your system.

Didnt the Romans describe a good soldier as one 'worth his salt' ?

...and paid them in salt too (hence 'salary' from salarium) 🙂

Thanks Sue, definitely had the blurred vision this morning 🙂 Just tested it again and it's 86/54 but I feel fine.

What happens when you go from sitting to standing?

Aaa! I get the same issues with dizziness and feeling light headed. My BP tends to run on the low side naturally, don't know why but the gliclazide did make it worse. I did also used to get swirly shapes in my vision which may have been unknowingly related.
