I've only been on Metformin 500mg for three days, but noticed obvious swelling in my hands when I woke up this morning. Is this a common side effect of the medication?

Can't say in 8 years if using met I've had that. Is they any mention in the patient information papers you got with the metformin of it causing swollen hands

How much water are you drinking? Puffy fingers is a side effect of not enough fluids, it could be something to keep an eye on

Nail on head maybe. It's the vicious circle of trying to avoid over frequent loo visits. Drinking more is probably the lesser of two evils.

Drink more water, I prefer sparkling as plain feels like a con. I try to drink 2 litres a day as a base line

I agree, though it doesn't have to be water, any non-alcoholic liquid works just as well - diet fizzy drinks, tea, etc, just as long as it is fluid.
