Hi All...

Sorry to bring the topic of swine flu up again...But I thought this might be of interest to all who use this site.

I have just got back from town...after popping into a well know dvd, games rental shop..to pick up a game Nathan had ordered.

Well one of the young lads who works in there is also Type 1...and we have had many a conversation regarding the subject...

As usual I asked him how he was doing etc.....He looked a bit fed up...than turned to me and said "I might have to go home"...a bit confused I asked why?...He replied "Because of swine flu"...Me still looking a little puzzled at him..He then went on to produce a letter that had been sent to all stores regarding the swine flu pandemic....I then went on to read the letter...not sure if the lad was meant to show me...but I think in the big scheme of things he wanted my take on the situation...with regards to Nathan being type 1.......I was completely shocked by what the letter said...and the strict precautions that must be adhered to by all....diabetics, epileptics and asthmatics........ Face masks, was one suggestion...the final one was if in doubt send all the above mentioned home????

What !!!! For a starter it was said that the face masks would do nothing.

Is this just for your shopping centre or was this an official letter from government or dept of health of something? Does that mean we have to keep the kids in (and the others on here) until this pandemnic is over, how long will that take, that is some home educating...........

Hi Adrienne...

That was exactly what I said.....followed by a few other words...lol😱..

I honestly could'nt believe what I was reading...the poor lad was gutted....understandable..

The letter was published by the companies head office....and sent to all stores in that chain

oh ok, phew. Just one ignorant company then!! I'm going to guess Blockbusters 😉

Do you know who sent the letters to the stores? Just wondering if ti's some overzealous shopping centre manager or some official govt source...?

I hope is going to say he doesn't want to go home.

Isn't that like discrimination or something?

The letter also advised the following.....

That....diabetics, epileptics and asthmatics.....must also have regular breaks???.....regular hand washing...no contact with people who have any symptoms of swine flu???...also to monitor how they feel during the day???

That's not very nice.

We had a swine flu notice put up at work asking all pregnant women, diabetics, asthmatics, and those who are HIV positive to identify themselves to their manager.

One was not amused...

I went upstairs and made my point about the matter to the author of the notice and slammed the door on the way out. A new notice appeared soon after.

Discrimination. Makes my blood boil. Grrr.

Hi Tez....

I totally agree with you here.....Well done for getting the notice taken down....🙂

While I have very deep concerns about swine flu.....Is the whole thing now getting blow out of all proportion?? I mean what next...red X's on doors...??

I also think some people don't think before jumping in with both feet and causing mass panic amongst others.

Also it has to be noted that seasonal flu..cause far more deaths...(sorry)...

I've had swine flu now for about 5 days, been in bed mostly, my husband had to have time off to look after kids especially as no one can come to the house and no one wants to look after R at the best of times anyway.

Anyway, he went back to work today, as i'm up, not feeling overly great but better. He returned within an hour, they had sent him home, they had consulted their company flowchart and because he had been in contact with someone diagnosed with it within the past 4 days he couldn't come to work! He then had another call to say they had changed policy and to get himself back to work (just as i'd gone for a lie down - i'd only done the washing up and i was knackered!!)

I made the point that if R was to get it he would need further time off, then if my son was to get it - more time off and that's not to mention if he was to get it - he could be off for months!!!! Companies are panicking but the threat of getting it is everywhere anyway.

That poor boy in the shop! Poor fella, I wonder under what circumstance they were considering sending him home, on full pay I should blooming well hope otherwise he is definately the victim of work discrimination.

...on another note....this might make you chuckle (or not), my manager asked me to "man" the swine flu clinic yesterday!!! Does he have a brain! I went bazzerk at him, I am not too impressed being exposed it on a daily basis anyway.

Tez, well done for putting your point across. For some 'strange' reason, my boss seems to have little comprehension of ANY risk, and I a very disapointed. I certainly dont agree with letter like what went around your work though.

Becca, hope you feel better soon xx

Seems like private companies are more concerned about us than the NHS. They were willing to send me onto the swine ward. But as it happens I'm now sick and waiting on tamiflu when my girlfriend gets back from work tonight.
