Eight-year-old Carly Lenett swam laps for the second year in a row Sunday at the Emmaus High School pool to raise funds and awareness to combat diabetes.

Carly was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at age 3, a year before she jumped into the deep end of the pool for the first time with her big brother, Ben. She and her family quickly discovered that swimming was one of the best ways to help manage her diabetes, by lowering her blood sugar, and control her quality of life.

But she doesn't want to manage just her diabetes. She wants to show newly diagnosed ? and often scared ? kids that they can also manage theirs, too.

"Swimming is my sport, and I wanted to raise money doing it," she said. "I love it."
