Type 2
Hi everyone
I was diagnosed type 2, 3 months ago with a hba1c of 51. I've managed to lower it to 41 using the lchf diet. Although I wasn't going too high with the fats.
I've been baking with recipes I've found on the internet, using ground almonds and xylitol but discovered that was a mistake and think it has really upset my IBS. I also made a big whammy with the amounts to use which didn't help. Trying to convert cups into oz. I've also tried the Atkins bars and these have the same effect. Although coke zero doesn't affect me at all.

My question is, does anyone know of a sweetener that is safe to use with IBS.
I make blueberry scones, chocolate muffins and macaroons. Neither had much effect on my bg.
I don't think I could carry on without some sort of cake. The above were going to get me through Christmas.
I would be so grateful for any ideas.
Thank you.

Have you tried using the Sucralose based sweeteners? They don't affect the digestive system like the polyols do (like Xylitol) - which have a laxative effect, and can be used in baking without breaking down at high temperatures.

Well Tesco's OB granulated sweetener is Aspartame based but there again it isn't carb free cos it also has Maltodextrin - but there again you don't need all that much to achieve the same level of sweetness - and finally I don't like stuff half as sweet as I used to ! LOL

Have you looked at stevia? It is a more natural product - but i have no experience of using it with IBS but i am certain it is fine to cook with.
