A CLARINDA woman has been recognised for her positivity throughout 60 years of living with diabetes.
Gael Mizzi was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes before Christmas in 1951, when she was four years old.
Type 1 diabetes occurs when the body becomes unable to produce insulin, which is needed to process sugar. Sufferers require up to four insulin injections every day.
?In the days when I was diagnosed you had great big needles that parents had to sharpen on the sides of matchboxes,? she said.
