Yes, swede is much lower in carbs. I mash mine with carrots, which can be used to top a shepherds pie. You can also roast swede with spray oil and lightly dust with paprika once cooked.
I slice up a swede and cook it in a pressure cooker. It is then used mashed, with cream or butter, but also to make bubble and squeak, beaten up with eggs and any spare cooked veges - or chopped already cooked mushrooms, very nice with a layer of bacon, when it becomes bubble and squeal.
