Relationship to Diabetes

Just had lunch. I'm now noticeable sweating. Is this a diabetes thing? It's unusual for me.

It wasn't a chicken vindaloo was it Ralph? :D

Joking apart, and no idea if this applies to you of course, there is a condition described here;
Gustatory Sweating

'Gustatory sweating is something different entirely, and not unique to people with diabetes. However, people with diabetic autonomic neuropathy are more likely to suffer from this than those without nerve damage. Luckily, it is easy to identify. If you break a sweat when you eat or drink, you’re experiencing this condition. It’s relatively common, but an under-recognized symptom of nervous system dysfunction with diabetes, according to a report in the Southern Medical Journal.

Gustatory sweating is limited to your face, scalp, and neck. It’s believed that the sweating is triggered when a stimulant hits the taste buds, as it doesn’t occur when the food hits your stomach or when you smell food.

Sometimes, this sweating is most pronounced when consuming certain foods, like those that are particularly spicy.

There is no test or simple yes/no diagnosis for this condition, and your doctor will rely on your own reporting of your symptoms. If your head and neck sweat when you eat, it’s likely that you are experiencing gustatory sweating.'

I know of people who suffer with this who are not diabetic but strange if it's just started. Is the sweating restricted to your face, scalp or neck or all over? Be interesting to see if your temperature rises too. Maybe mention it to your doctor if it continues to cause any problems.

Yes a hypo would be an obvious reason if Ralph suffers with them Also perhaps a meal particularly high in carbs that pushed his levels up. I feel quite unwell when that happens but not sweaty.

I get like this!!! It's worse right after I've eaten, ESP smthn hot like soup and I feel like I am a furnace!

It's happened a couple of times. Not always. I don't feel particularly hot. I get some sweating on my back and chest. I had sweat marks on the front of my clothes. When I put my hand to my head it came away very wet, not just damp. Could clearly see it on my hand.

Now Ralph that's exactly what I get with a night time hypo, or if i inject insulin for a meal and it drops my blood sugar before the food hits. It's very unusual for me because I rarely break a sweat. If you have a meter might be worth testing at that point to see if the blood sugar is on the move in either direction. you might need adjustment to medication (if you take any). Is it related to any particular type of food?

Metformin 500 twice a day.
As for for a meter, I haven't got one. Wouldn't be able to make use of it.. I have no one to show me how to do finerprick, use the meter, or what to do the the results.
