A long-standing puzzle in the diabetes field has been the fact that only a small subset of insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas of adult organisms can replicate (and hence contribute to beta cell regeneration in diabetes). Furthermore, this subset of replicating cells continues to decline with advancing age, scientists say.

So does this mean that all the stem-cell stuff has been wrong then - or what?

Maybe humans are different from mice LOL ! - I seriously do wonder quite a lot sometimes if doing all these things to mice is actually of all that much use, truly - to us?
