Support for students

I am currently supporting a student at a local school. Often it is just being around to support and talk over the issues and feelings they have.

when I was diagnosed 40 +years ago a member of the local support group had a son with diabetes, and she was very strict and rigid, (she used to wrap a couple of biscuits every time he left the house just in case.) once he left home he went completely off the rails and had many issues with being unable to manage things for himself.

Could it be that the parent is worried about her own knowledge and understanding the condition so is constantly in a state of anxiety. Better education and understanding might be the answer to this issue.
