Does anyone know of any support group that provides support, for children living with a parent who is diabetic? My 8 year old daughter witness me go into DKA, AKI & sepsis and was with me in the ambulance while I was unconscious. She still talks about it & is constantly worried about me. Is there any support for children living with diabetic parents?

Hello Kags, Welcome. Oh that must have been such a shock for her.
I am not sure about support groups for children who's parent has T1. You could try phoning our helpline
0345 123 2399
or perhaps @Northerner can help.

Thank you ljc. I have manage to contact Emma at diabetes uk who has given me a direct contact for my area.

My daughter was so scared bless her. She still talks about it & if she hears an ambulance & I'm not with her she worries the ambulance is for me.

Welcome to the forum Kags. I don't know about any support for children of parents with diabetes. Good to hear that your contact with Diabetes UK was helpful.

How are you now, putting it mildly you've had a rough time of it.
I'm glad you have managed to contact Emma.

I'm doing a lot better my long term bloods where still 8.9 last check but that's a lot better than it was. It was in double figures. I'm back on dafne now so I have much better control. Last year was a vicious circle of illness versus diabetes! I still feel a little fragile every now & then but getting there. I just wish my daughter hadn't been witness to it. My last admission I was taken off a flight at Birmingham airport and rushed to Solihull itu which my daughter was by my side the whole time. A lot for an eight year old to deal with.
