Supplement pill dosage for the DPN Cocktail

As I mentioned in a previous message here it looks like I have the start of Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy or DPN. Looking around online I came upon a "cocktail" of supplements that supposedly helps with the symptoms:

* 300mg Slow Release Alpha Lipoic Acid
* 1300mg Evening Primrose Oil
* 500mg Vitamin C

I have started to take them. However, the advice in the cited post above is to start off taking the cocktail twice a day:

Starting off, take one cocktail morning and night. After you get relief from the neuropathy feelings, you should be able to reduce this to a maintenance dose of once a day.

However, on the ALA and Vitamin C bottles, the maximum recommended daily amount (RDA) is one pill a day and not two. I am concerned that doubling the RDA might not be a such good idea.

Does anyone have any experience of using this cocktail?, did it help?, and did you follow the suggested "twice a day" dosage or what is recommended on the bottles?

Thanks in advance.

From my own research into neuropathic pain (in my case, post surgical), I was strongly guided to R-ALA, as opposed to ALA. The r-fraction has better bioavailability meaning it is often better absorbed.

I hadn't encountered a slow release version at all.

I didn't take your cocktail, I just added the R-ALA to the supplements I already took at that time - Vit D and zinc.

For me, my pain gradually eased and now if no longer present, unless I irritate the area - so I try not to.

A relative of mine took ALA plus other supplements at an initial dose of 600mg, and cured their non-diabetic neuropathy @TMR254 They had no adverse effects and now take a smaller maintenance dose.

Reading @Inka 's post, I should have mentioned my R-ALA was at 600mg. When my pain had subsided to near disappeared levels, I stopped taking the R-ALA, with a view I could restart as necessary.

To be fair, it is quite plausible by surgical neuropathy would have healed, in time, without intervention. I'll never know, but for now, whilst I'n not bothered by it, unless I think I can wear an underwired bra, I'll soldier on without, and choose appropriate underwear.

I was only reading last week about the potential positive impact on neuropathic pain of Vit C.

Hope you find it helpful @TMR254

If you have concerns about dosage / allowance I suggest popping to your high st pharmacy, and having a chat with the qualified pharmacist - they are the specialists in drug reactions and interactions and should be able to give you advice based on the current published research and guidance?
