Hi All,

in thinking back to the weeks before my diagnosis I remember thinking my eyes had started to look quite sunken. Since being on the diet and meds it’s more or less gone. Is this a common thing or maybe not related?

Could it have been dehydration? High levels can cause dehydration so if you have reduced your bgl with the treatment and dietary changes that could explain the improvement.

Yes I think this is to do with being dehydrated, my daughter’s eyes were very sunken just before she was diagnosed, but soon went back to normal after the hospital had got fluid and insulin into her. It's because when your sugars are very high your body tries to pee out the excess, which is also why you become very thirsty, you are peeing out more than you can drink though, hence you become dehydrated.

I remember my eyes being weirdly sunken too. I don’t know if it was dehydration or the sudden weight loss (I have Type 1) or both, but it looked strange and not like anything I’d seen before.
