MORE than 250 Wearsiders have developed diabetes in the past year, research out today shows.
Analysis from Diabetes UK shows that 17,287 people in Sunderland are now thought to have diabetes, up from 17,022 in 2012.
It means that 7.4 per cent of people living in the city now have the condition, and experts predict the figure will rise to 8.1 per cent by 2020.
The news comes just months after the city?s youngsters were found to be among the fattest in the country, with obesity increasing the chances of developing diabetes.
