A WEARSIDE fund-raiser has won a top award from Diabetes UK in recognition of his efforts.
Deano Franciosy was presented with the Margaret Hunter Award at the charity?s regional Inspire Awards in Durham.
The award is given to someone who the judges consider to be an exceptional volunteer who had gone ?above and beyond? for the charity.
Deano, of Concord, Washington, has raised nearly ?4,500 this year for Diabetes UK after taking part in events including bag packs in supermarkets and climbing the 112 steps up to Penshaw Monument 48 times in two hours while carrying 20lbs on his back.
