Good Morning

It's 6.48 on a Sunday morning and this is my first post on here.

Why I'm wondering, considering most sensible UK folk are still tucked up in bed at this time on a Sunday and yet I'm sat here typing this message.

Why after 13 years of being diagnosed with type 1 have I decided to sign up and post a message on this forum. Maybe I see how much it seems to help others share what they are going through, maybe not.

However when I woke this morning I felt the urge to post, to put words on a screen.

I'm not sure where I go from here ...maybe being able to discuss with people who deal with the same doubts, denials, positives, negatives, frustrations, hopes etc. that come with living with this condition will help me focus on what I can do to make things better.

From reading a number of posts here my sugars are erratic in comparison and my Hba1c is embarrassing - but I didn't post this message to focus on negatives, I'm not looking to hide behind excuses. I'm here to take inspiration from others, to learn and adjust and get things balanced as best as I can. Although the help and advice I get from my care team is very helpful I'm hopeful speaking to others who face the same challenges will bolster my resolve to improve where I can.

It's easier to follow a path if others have already trodden steps first.

Everyone seems very welcoming here and helpful which I guess is what I was looking for.

Cheers
Mark

Good morning Mark and welcome to the forums. I was only diagnosed on the 1st December so am very little help on type 2 front and no hope on type 1's!

There are many very knowledgeable folks round here who will be better served to help and support you in your resolve to improve. I have learned so much from here that I now feel in control of what I am supposed to be doing.

Take care xx

Welcome to the forum, Mark. I joined in after lurking for quite a while, just reading the posts. I think actually posting on it helps me keep focused on trying to stay on track. Plus there's a lot of friendly people on here and good information.

Welcome to the forum Mark.

I only joined about 3 months ago but I've found the forum to be non-judgemental and very friendly and supportive. So however long you've had diabetes, however you manage it or think you've managed it (or not 😉 ) you will always get friendly support and advice on here. There will always be people on here who are going through or have been through the same.

Keep posting.

Welcome Mark!
I've been here about three months too, everyone is really helpful and generally lovely here.
I've learnt that there are no stupid questions here!

Hope you're enjoying your Sunday x

Welcome Mark, glad you joined us. You are right, it's great having people in the same boat to bounce things off. I find it invaluable when I want to just off load about something, knowing there are people who know what I mean. I like also giving others support, where I can, makes me feel like I'm doing ok too.

Welcome.
I would give the forum 11/10 for answers to questions and the medics 5/10. I don't think many of us want sympathy - just someone who really knows what its like at the sharp end (of the needle :D) and can give constructive advice.

Welcome, I find that the forum can give you a real perspective and is a valuable source of reference.

Welcome to the forum Mark. You only have to look at my signature to see the kind of roller coaster I've been on when it comes to HbA results, so I shouldn't worry about that too much. Anything we can do to help, we will and any experiences you care to share, we will be glad of.

Hi Mark!

Sometimes we just would like to ask, Do you think if I do this (take a split bolus for a pizza, or reduce my basal cos I'm going for a long bike ride) it will work? - and often we haven't got anyone to ask. Here - we can! (and then get 27 answers, so we have to balance them up and go with the one that seems more reasonable LOL)

But can I ask a question please? What regime are you on (MDI, pumping, what? and have you been on a carb-counting course? (DAFNE/something else)

Hi Mark
Welcome aboard, I'm just a toddler diabetes wise, in fact my two year anniversary is just around the corner. This forum is great, and I found myself here because honestly the medical advice was fitful at best, and it helps to talk to people who know what it's like. Anyway welcome aboard 🙂

Hi Mark!

I'm MDI (Levemir/Novorapid) I've sat on a abbreviated version of a DAFNE course ran by my last care team. I know carb counting works for me when I have a set routine, but any changes to that and I struggle. I've recently moved areas so have started reviewing things again with a dietician.

Well that was the best MDI combination for me, Silver. I found that changes to Levemir were much quicker to take effect (and actually, more effective in the first place) than on Lantus, and I'm still on N in my pump now. Plus you've done a proper course, which is all good.

So - what bits of your life aren't 'routine' now? Cos really once you have your basal as bang on as you can get it, and your course should have taught you how to sort that out, did it? (Cos it keeps changing anyway whatever regime you are on) the carb counting doesn't really change so you should be able to miss meals or eat them at different times etc and still stay stable. (stable BG I mean, can never guarantee any other type of stability LOL)

Is it just the stress of moving causing your BG to not play ball? - stress can and does play havoc, even if it's 'good' stress.

Hi Mark and welcome to the forum. I have found this place a great help since being diagnosed in August. If I hadn't have listened to this lot I wouldn't be in the position I am in now.
