Hi everyone, just looking for some advice, I'm on ozempic tablet, can't get the injections unless you pay privately, anyway, I'm getting horrendous Sulphur burps, does anyone else have these, and what did you do to rest them x

Sorry to hear about your unpleasant burps @Curlynurse

They sound very waring.

There are a few threads mentioning sulphur burps, and gastric upset on a variety of classes of meds - so perhaps it’s symptomatic of a general stomach upset from the med, rather than the class of med itself?

How are you finding the Rybelsus apart from the burps? Do they seem to be effective for you? Do you think they may settle in time (eg if you went back to a lower dose and increased more gradually)?

Hope you can find something to ease your situation :care:

Have you tried experimenting with your diet to see if the sulphur burps are related to a reaction between the medication and certain types of food? Eggs for instance??

Not necessarily saying that eggs are responsible, but the medication slows down your digestion I believe so food is sitting in your stomach longer and foods which can release sulphur are more likely to do so in that scenario. I would guess proteins in general are probably more likely to release sulphur. Maybe just try leaving out eggs for a day or two and see if it helps. I wonder if an antacid might help. Do check the Patient Information leaflet of the medication before you try antacids or ask a pharmacist.

It could be the balance of your gut microflora has been disrupted, many bacteria will cause a sulphury smelling gas to be released /when they metabolise certain foods. Maybe some probiotic yoghurt will help to restore that balance.
