A few years ago I was on Metformin but they didn’t agree with me and I was put on Sitagliptin. Last Nov my annual blood test came back at 11 and the diabetic nurse prescribed me Sukartto which I believe is still a form of Metformin.I had lost my husband in the May and watching what I was eating was the last thing I was thinking about, especially with all the stress I was going through. I think that’s why my bloods had risen. So I have been taking these tablets for 8 months and I have lost over a stone and half without even trying. If anyone is on the medicine could you tell me if this is normal, beginning to get a bit worried as I’ve never been able to lose weight this quick and by this much ever. Thanks in advance for any info.

Hello @Spiregirl ,

Welcome to our forum! I hope you don't mind, but I moved your post to the newbies section so people will see your post first. I am so sorry to hear about your husband in May and I can only imagine how stressful it must have been for you during that time. It may be helpful to ring our helpline regarding your weight loss 0345 123 2399 Mon-Fri 9am-6pm.

Glad you have found us @Spiregirl

So sorry to hear about the loss of your husband. I know something of what that is like, having lost my wife to cancer over 2 years ago. It’s a profound change, and a very individual and personal experience. Be kind to yourself, and make room for self care as you continue to move through your grieving.

Sukkarto is a slow-release form of Metformin, which is generally a bit kinder on the tum. Metformin meds can be associated with weight loss, and appetite reduction.

However unexplained and unintended weight loss is often worth keeping an eye on, so do chat to the Helpline, or get in contact with your surgery if you are concerned.

In particular, of you are relatively recently diagnosed (in the last few years) rapidly rising BG levels, alongside unintended weight loss, might be an indication that you may have a different type of diabetes - such as LADA, which can start out looking a lot like T2, but is actually a slow-onset form of T1.

Let you know how you get on 🙂
