Hi, I’ve been missing pickle on my cheese and homemade crackers. Any suggestions re a low carb substitute? 🙂

I have never given up pickles ! I often have my all time favourite cheese, pickled beetroot sandwich, accompanied by pickled onions. Also have piccalilli, or other pickles. I eat Burgeon bread, only have one slice. I do not eat crackers.

Thank you Grovesy. My crackers are homemade with ground flaxseed etc, low carb. They are not as nice as normal savoury biscuits, but they’re not too bad. 🙂

It depends how low carb you want to be. I still use jam, marmalade and chutney (all home-made and the sugar in the recipes reduced a fair bit). I also still have ketchup (reduced sugar version) and salad cream. For me the key is that I have them less often than previously, and in much smaller portions. Even if something is quite high in carbs per 100g, if the portion size is very small it won't add up to much.

Thank you Secretsquirrel. I’ll have my usual pickle, but less of it and make some of my own with less sugar. 🙂

EG Branston do a 'sandwich' pickle which tastes the same but no actual lumps of veg, cos they are chopped a lot finer. Thus it spreads very well. This then enables you to have a scrape and not a great dollop.

Ah, thank you Trophywench, that sounds good too. Phew! Thought I was going to have to give it up! Lol.

@Sally W - thank you for the info. Will have a look. 🙂
