My neighbour has just been diagnosed with Type 2 and wants to know if there is certain thing as how much sugar is allowed in a day. I said nil if possible.

If at all possible it should be avoided, and certainly by itself in the form of sweets or sugary drinks (or spoonfuls of sugar in beverages). Eating something sweet like a biscuit with a main meal will lower the impact that the sugar has on the blood glucose levels, and can be a way of allowing yourself a small treat to prevent cravings 🙂
