I am having trouble finding foods that do not have an adverse effect on either one or the other of these. I know veg is good but I can't handle eating masses of veg all the time.

I have been battling high cholesterol (with the help of statins) for 3 years now, following a a mild heart attack.

When I was recently diagnosed as T2 (Nov) I was also told that my cholesterol was still rather high. Now we all know that wholegrain foods are good for lowering cholesterol, but they send my blood-sugar UP!

High protein foods like meat and cheese are great for the sugar levels, but obviously not doing me any favours with the cholesterol.

DOH!!!!!!!

Hi Lynn, i have exactly the same problems as you, including the wholegrain blood sugar reaction.

I've so far managed to keep the cholesterol level just about low enough (under threat of statins though now) for the past 2 years by eating more poultry and less beef, pork and lamb. I also invested in a George Foreman grill which helps get rid of lots of fat out of things like bacon. Also found that Black Farmer sausages have very little fat in them.

Not a lot but hope it helps a little.

Good luck

Rose

There is a theory that reducing your carb intake will not only help your blood sugars but will also lower your cholesterol. Mine have certainly improved (I am on statins as well and have had a heart attack)

That's strange Vic, and completely opposes all the advice about oats and wholegrains helping to lower cholesterol. It's hard to know what to believe with dietary advice isn't it? So many conflicting ideas.

Thanks Rosie. I tried Weightwatchers sausages last night and they are not too bad. The best tasting low-fat sausage I have tried so far anyway. Some of them were absolutely foul!!! Yuk!!!!!

Some types of fish are supposed to be good for you too. Perhaps a chat with a nutritionist or dietician would help.

Also remember things like eggs, butter, cheese and milk also contain a certain amount of cholesterole too.
