A well-meaning soul gave me some "sugar free, carb free" sweets. I don't have a huge sweet tooth "unprovoked", but if you leave something like that around & it seems like it won't have any impact on BG, I'll chomp 'em down.
So I learned a lesson about sugar alcohols. These things were choc-full of maltitol and mannitol, sugar alcohols which do in fact impact BG. Even though manufacturers can claim they are "carb free", commentary in various places suggest counting them as carbs at a ~50% per g rate.
Lesson learned. Plus they gave me gas. Blah.
