A Tory health minister faces a furious backlash after claiming student nurses are “not deemed to be providing a service” to the NHS.
Helen Whately made the comment in a reply to concerns that student nurses could face financial hardship after their bursaries were scrapped from 2017.
Many of those student nurses have since risked their lives to help tackle Covid-19 in paid placements.
Student nurse Jessica Collins, who is graduating with £60,000 of debt, has called for her and others' debt to be written off.
But when her MP Tom Pursglove passed on her concerns, Ms Whately replied: "The Government has no plans to introduce a scheme that will backdate the offer for students who completed courses in earlier years.
I bet she clapped on Thursdays too 😡
