MILLVILLE (USA) ? Melissa Barlett couldn?t help her emotions Thursday morning when her daughter Emma, 8, walked on the athletic field at Rieck Avenue School as her favorite song, ?Just The Way You Are,? began playing from speakers.
Friends hugged Barlett and gave her messages of support, and then Emma ran quickly to her. Both had large smiles on their faces as they embraced and walked a lap around the field for Emma?s big day.
The entire school came out for Thursday?s walk-a-thon to support the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. Emma has battled Type 1 diabetes since age four, and was the inspiration for the school?s event.
