Rather disappointed with my HbA again.

It was 7.1 again (Jan 7.1, Oct 12 7.3 and previous one 6.8)

I know I had a bout of illness last year so fully expected to see massive improvement.
I'm walking between 3 and 8 (sometimes 10) miles a day. Prior to H arrival running and cycling.

GP says it is excellent for an insulin dependent type 2 and reminded me it is a progressive illness. I've questioned the diagnosis, since I went onto insulin after 9 months and having initially lost 3 stone in weight. I'm currently 4 1/2 lighter since diagnosis.

In the earlier years it stayed around the 6.0 to 6.5. I get one or two rogue high readings and generally stay within the 4 - 7 range.

What am I doing wrong or missing here ? HELP 😱

Di, you have had quite a bit of stress and illness since your previous test, what with the initial uncertainty about H and everything. I would also question your diagnosis as you are pretty much indistinguishable from me. I think often that GPs don't look at the individuals when considering results. 7.1% is very good, compared to most of the people with diabetes your GP probably sees, and it's also quite likely that he sees most of his patients get progressively worse, needing more meds, as time goes on. However, this does not take into account how highly-motivated and well-informed you are - your benchmark is not what the lesser informed or motivated people aim for, but the kinds of numbers you frequently see from other members of the forum.

Are you testing regularly before and after meals to see if you can iron out any spikes? Injecting 15-30 mins before eating? (Difficult to not then become distracted when looking after H, no doubt!). What are your waking levels like, and how much difference is there generally between them and your bedtime readings? Staying steady overnight at good levels is very important as this represents around a quarter to a third of your time.

Try not to worry about this current test. I know it can be disappointing when higher than you hope/expect, but it's not necessarily a trend. It's a case of finding out when you might be higher without realising it.

Thanks for the reply Northy.

Waking bs are generally in the 4s. I have never injected novo before meals and keep forgetting to inject straight away after. I'm working on this (only been like this since h moved in). I'm keeping a close eye on how much novo I'm injecting at mo as I keep dropping really low mid afternoon.

I'll take your advice and try not to worry to much this time again! Hopefully the Dafne course will come through soon and help x

Hi Di, not ignoring you but I do not know anything about injections and so on.

Hope this is down to recent events as happy as they are!
