Hi Smilerm, welcome to the forum.🙂

Don’t worry, that’s normal. Half the population probably start off the day with a score like that. When you wake up in the morning your liver kicks out a bit of glucose to set you up for the travails of the day.

Keep up the good work🙂

Thanks for your comments. I’ll continue with the diet and exercise

You'll find quite often low carb does give a higher fasting BG, your liver dumps glucose on the morning, so you get a raised BG.
Hba1c, and testing after meals give you a better picture.

Thanks for your comments - I’m not aware of the finer points - and your comments are encouraging. I’ll continue with the plan.

Welcome to the Forum. I was pre-diabetic, changed my diet to lower carb, went back to normal, then found at the last hba1c that I was back up at 42. Very disappointed. Am battling on with this.

One thing my GP did mention was that I may be more insulin resistant as \I am getting older (I am 65). It may be that your age has something to do with it as our bodies won't work so efficiently when we are older as when we are younger. I was told this by two GPs and a physio.

Anyway I shall battle on as I am not giving in to "age". I am enjoying my food more now that I am watching the carbs. Thankfully, I like cooking and trying different foods. There are lots of lovely recipes in the "recipes" section here.

Thanks for the comments about lower carb can cause higher fasting bloods due to the overnight "liver dump." I was not aware of that before I heard it here.

Thank you so much for your helpful and interesting comments. You could well be correct. In the meantime I’ll continue with the current regime but raise the issue with my GP in a months time if still making no progress
