Is this revenge of the voddie or has the 5 k killed me.

Dropped to 3.2 in the shower, had 2 x glucose tabs and 2 slices of toast. Normally more the enough and an hour later still 3.5, I dont really want to drink a carton of Orange juice as it will send me sky high.

Any ideas or tips ?

Thanks Di x

What about a good spoonful of jam/chocolate spread/marmalade/jelly babies etc or a couple of biscuits? Hope it goes up for you, but not too high. Sheena x

Thanks for the ideas sheena, only prob is got nothing like those in house. I maybe need to get a secret stash and get hubby to hide and bring out in an emergency x

It's probably a combination of the vodka and the 5k Di. Your liver may have been down on it's glucose production during the day and the run will have depleted your muscle glycogen stores and your liver will be trying to recoup energy it gave you for the run! Not to mention the fact that you will be more sensitive to your insulin for quite some time.

As it was your first run for quite a while your body won't be used to that type of exercise - same happens with me, running I'n fine but gardening drives me low no mattter what I try to do! My only solution is to keep topping up gradually, so two or three jelly babies an hour seems to keep me just the right side of hypo.

Do be careful about your levemir tonight though, as the run might still be making you sensitive to insulin, and especially given your low levels this past week.

Funnily enough, I've got a hypo coming on now - did some gardening this afternoon! 😱 Hope you get get nicely in the 5s soon!

Hope you get your hypo sorted Alan. Thanks for the tip on the levemir will reduce it a couple of units tonight. Due to inject at 10.

One thing I keep meaning to ask here is if your hypo and are due to inject your slow release should you delay or are you ok to inject? I presume it takes a bit of time to start releasing. Or have I got that completely wrong ?

I would treat the hypo and once I was back above 5 I'd inject my slow-acting. 🙂

p.s. my hypo was 3.8, so I have had a dark chocolate kitkat mmmm...!

Hi Di,
I suspect eating the toast was the main cause of the delay in rising blood sugars.
To treat a hypo you need to have 15 quick/rapid carbs then wait 15 mins and repeat if you haven't gone up enough.
Perhaps try the juice 1st next time?
Hope you are soon sorted.

I have these because Tia likes chocolate spread/Jam/Marmalade etc or have you any glucose tablets to hand? Sheena x

Oh tease I could just eat a kitkat lol.

I don't buy treats because I have no will power and would Just eat them all once.
normally in the 3s the glucose tabs are ok.

gonna test again and if ok do levemir, then bed for me.

thanks for all the tips x

I realise you're probably asleep by now, but I thought I'd mention that sometimes a hot shower can lower your BG due to increased blood flow around your injection site.

Obviously it can also sometimes raise your BG but you'll be used to the unpredictability of it all by now. 🙄

Hope you have a hypo free night (and Alan).🙂
