Hi there I am sorry I haven't posted for a while. I am struggling at the moment with very high levels which keep dying down then going up again. My poor husband hasnt slept for days through fear that I'm not going to wake up. Yesterday my level was 17 when I got up and was unsettled all day. By teatime it was 27. I increased my background by 180% and kept having lots of corrections which helped abit. I feel totally shattered.
Was treated for thrush last week but unsure if this is the cause or if it's something else. I suffer with an irritable bowel which has got worse recently with alot of aching under my ribs. The dr changed my tabs but it made it worse.
Would appreciate any help as not coping very well at the moment.

Hi Nat. Your poor thing sounds like your having a deffo tough time. Sounds like you got summin going on if your bm's are that irratic and high and your IBS playing up. I usually have difficulty if I have an infection and esp with antibiotics. Probs best to go see your doc monday and see if they can do a blood test to see if something going on. Hope you feel better soon as must be doing your head in.

Hi Natb, very sorry you are having problems :( Is there any possibility that your insulin might not be working properly, like if it has got too warm at some time? Have you tried using a new vial? Are you just getting highs or are you having lows as well? If you have an infection then this can cause greater insulin resistance and sometimes I find I have to increase my insulin quite a lot and still not quite manage to bring my levels down. Obviously, you are trying your best to get things under control, but those highs will be making you feel rotten on top of whatever else you are having to deal with :( Bear in mind that non-diabetics sometimes feel really horrible too, so it might not be due to your diabetes. If you're still feeling bad after the weekend I'd go back to the doctor.

I hope you are feeling better soon 🙂

I'm with Northener on this one in that it could be your insulin. I would certainly change the cartridge and see if it helps and if not either go to the doctors on Monday or phone NHS 24 tomorrow.

Hope things sort themselves out soon.

Hi there, thanks for all your advice. Changed my insulin and cannula but was no change on Friday.
Levels around 13.0 today as I kept a temp basal on over night.
Doctors are puzzled with it all as have done tests and are all normal.
I try so hard with it all but it has become very frustrating at the moment.
So glad I have all of you to talk to. 🙂

Have you tried a different type and or length of cannula?

Best option though is to do a basal test and see what's going on. Then reset your basal. Once that's right then test your carb ratio.

I tried doing testing but was so up and down I stopped doing them and was exhausted getting up in the night. Having hypos too so you can't do testing can you?
Had to come to bed as so tired. Reduced background tonight so got to be a good sign.
At work Tom through to wed so will see how I get on.
Tried different cannulas in the past but found rapid d link the best.
Will try and do testing periods Tom.
Thank you for your help. 🙂

I had a whole day of hi's yesterday. I changed canula twice, insulin twice but no different readings. I then changed to a different vial of insulin and within 2 hours my bg's were coming down nicely. I keep my insulin, that I am using, quite near to my lap top. Quite a lot of heat comes from lap top after long use and I think the heat had caused the insulin to go off. I have now moved it somewhere cooler.

Having read all your comments so far on this thread Nat,
I would be inclined to think your basal pattern has changed.
So you need to basal test.
There's a good sticky on how to on the pump forum. 🙂

Hi all, I changed my insulin again yest and although I had to increase my background by 20% my levels have come down alot and are between 9 and 10. Alot going around at work so maybe I was fighting something.
Going to check my basals on Thursday as I'm not at work to see what's going on.
Thank you for all your help and I hope you are all well. Will keep it in mind were I store my insulin in future. 🙂

Thank you for reminding me about the basal testing. Have had a good read again and once I'm feeling better going to do some testing periods.
