I went to see the Dr last week as I have had a problem with my right eye after a certain activity (with my partner), for about 15 mins after I have been going blind in my right eye 😱.

Anyway I went to see a stroke specialists yesterday who suspects I have had a series of T.I.A.s or mini strokes , I have to go back to the hospital today or tomorrow for a CT scan (Got to wait for a phone call) ,he has also told me he suspects that I need surgery on my cartoid arteries as they may be blocked , he has put me on dispersible asprin 75mg for the rest of my life and Persantin 200mg (to stop blood clots) for the next 2 years.

I am due to see my diabetic nurse for blood test shortly but my HbA1c level last time was 7.3 (not good I know)and the specialist has requested from my Dr that he wants to know what the new level is , he has also uped the amount of Simvastatin I am on from 20mg to 40mg.

To say this is a bit of a shock is an understatement , I will let you know how the CT scan goes.

sorry to hear that madhouse ...good luck with the new regieme x

Hi Madhouse, very sorry to hear of the problems, it must be very worrying. I hope that the CT scan goes well. I was put on a similar regime after my diagnosis, and am still on the aspirin. I also had to take clopidogrel for a year (another one to prevent blood clots). I think 40mg simvastatin is the 'normal' dose that they try to get everyone onto. I was on it it but stopped taking it once my cholesterol levels had dropped very low. At one time I too would have been shocked at the thought of being on medication 'for life', but it doesn't bother me now - as long as it is helping me to stay healthy!

Once again, good luck! 🙂

You might like to see if you can change the dispersable aspirin to enteric coated, I found it a right pain to have to disolve the things in water and then drink the resulting gritty water. The enteric ones (they do come as generic so shouldn't cost much more) are just another pill to pop.

Sorry to hear you are having a tough time, at least you are getting things looked at, and hopefully sorted out soon. Good luck with it all.

Good point Vic! I changed to the enteric coated ones because the others made me nauseous - now having much fewer problems with it.

Blimey Madhouse- I dont blame you for being shocked, I think I would have been terrified.

I really hope everything is ok- good luck with everything x

Thanks everyone ,I have not received the call today from the hospital so I can only presume I will be called tomorrow

Madhouse: how long have you been T2? i take it that you had no other problems up until this point? can you pinpoint why you think you may have had these mini strokes? i do hope you get sorted out soon and hope the worry will decrease :-(

Good luck Madhouse, that sounds horrid!! Strokes, especially minor ones do have a habit of sneaking up on people, and often don't get recognised until long after they've happened. Hopefully this will mean that your GP and hospital will be able to take better care of you. The fact that you haven;t been admitted must be a good sign too. Nearly every patient in our hospital is on aspirin and clopidogrel or dipyridamole (persantin, right?) Aspirin can irriate the stomach but the enteric coating should guard against that. You need to use up your pot of dipyridamole within 6 weeks of opening (it goes off a bit when in contact with the air, so it might not work so well), i used to think that it wasn't too much of a problem coz they only come in 4 week pots, but i've just realised that i'm so rubbish at taking my medication myself, that my 28 day supply of Metformin can last me a good six weeks...
Ps, 7.3's not that bad...

Good luck and hope you feel better soon
Rachel
