I bought 10 Accu-Check strips for this week; with an expiry date of 31-10-2011. However, I put the chip in but when I put a strip in it states 'code exp'; does this mean they have expired? or due to expire?

Amanda x 🙂

It shouldn't happen at the moment, as they aren't quite expired..

You can take them back to where you brought them from..

If you want to use them just reset your meters date to 2010 and they should work, but remember if they are out of date the result may not be accurrate if you not wise to use them to adjust medication dose to or if you are in danger of suffering a serious hypo..

They should still work, so I would call Accuchek and complain 🙂 Does the code on the chip match the code on the box?

I would take them back - as Alan said check the box code matches that given by the strips.

good Luck.

They were in the correct packaging and the chip matches the box. Should I bin or just use them? 😡

Can you alter the date on your meter? Maybe trick it into thinking they're still in date? Pop it back 1 month & see what happens.

You've got nothing to loose 🙂

Sarah 🙂

EDIT : Sorry just seen Ellies reply (really should read the replies thoroughly rather than skip reading 😱)

I wouldn't bin them as you have spent good money on them.

Call Accuchek and ask there advice - they may send you a replacement box. I have had free boxes of strips before from Abbots when I have been told incorrectly that there have been manufacturing problems. The company's don't want to lose your business and if the batch says they are still in date and the won't work on the meter they should want to help.

Have a look at this link - the careline is near the bottom

I'll have a go; if I can't will it make any difference? Amanda 🙂

I've just found this on the accu-chek website....

http://www.accu-chek.co.uk/gb/customerservice/faqs/products.html

For your safety, the Accu-Chek Aviva system is designed to prevent biased results caused by expired test strips. During the last month before the code chip expires, the meter continues to provide a result, along with the warning ?code exp? at the bottom of the display. After the code chip expires, the meter displays an ?E-5? error and ?code exp? will flash.

Don't know if it explains what you're seeing but sounds like it might.🙂

If I'm reading this right it is saying its ok to use for the remaining month unless the code 'E-5' 'code exp' flashes AND I will get a 'right' result?
