When l got up this morning l tested my BG it was 9.4 a little high??? all day l have been licking my lips and feeling thirsty l returned home after doing abit of walking tested my BG before tea it was 6.9 l am confused my diet book states that feeling thirsty is a sign of high BG whats going on what would you do if you were me cheers Charliewatch

I would say that, if you are worried then go and see your GP. Not everything you feel will be due to your diabetes. You may have picked up an infection or something - this will likely raise your blood sugars higher than you are used to seeing, but your levels are not excessively high.

So, I would recommend seeing your GP 🙂 Hope things improve for you soon!

Thanks for the quick reply l do realise it is unfair to keep asking the questions to the members but l do feel better in way that l am not on my own thanks folks Charlie.

No problem Charlie - that's why we're here, no need to apologise! 🙂

I can't recall if you're on any medications or not, but sometimes they can cause dry mouth. Perhaps it's that.

A dry mouth is a symptom of high blood sugars but they are by no means the only cause. Dry mouth is a side effect of some type of metformin tablet. You could mention it to your GP who may alter the prescription.

I go to the loo two or three times a night and have to have a couple of gulps of cold water each time and I am waking up with readings which are consistently below 6.0. Don't assume your BGs are running wild. Make a note of your readings and, if you see the doc, give them to him.

He may even tell you that dry mouth is caused by being over anxious.

this is why this forum is different to others ...no question is regarded silly here we all have different experinces with the old D ....
i too have been suffering from increased thirst at moment ...and find myself gulping down the water ...bs levels are a bit high for my liking but hey ho it might be cos there was a full moon .... ..it might be just your body getting to lower levels ...are you on meds ? what was your HbA1c ? try not to worry just do what you need to do and have a chat with GP when able

I quite often get a dry mouth if I have a cold or are slightly blocked up, as it's likely I've been breathing through my mouth.

I used to get a dry mouth at first and my hubby suggested I'd cut too much salt from my diet and wasn't retaining water as a result.
Hope that's helpful!
It's natural I think when first diagnosed to suddenly be worried about your body and health, and focus on every little change...it's probably that, but I agree that if you're worried you should talk to your doctor.
