Hope everyone is keeping safe and sound.

I was diagnosed T2 before lockdown decided to panic everyone. I normally work nights 10pm-7am although when I told the company I work for the health and safety team freaked out because apparently I cant work nights and be a diabetic. My manager on the other hand has said he will let me decide and assist anyway he can if I decide to change to the day shift (although I’m working days due to covid anyway) now my question is at the moment I’m coming in to work and dealing with customers who can’t understand why we have a one way system and a entrance and exit and the staff are just as bad although I shouldn’t let it get to me is the stress going to push my Bg up/down noticeably and if there is any telltale signs to look out for as I hate taking work home with me but at the moment my only solace to destress is a nice G&t when I get home.

any advice is welcome as I know everyone is different

Well as long as it's slimline tonic, I should think it's a good way of destressing. Only other thing I suggest is to test your BG before and after to see if it does affect it!

Hello and welcome to the forum. 🙂 I'm glad I don't deal with the public, I wouldn't have the patience. I got rid of a rat today and was told I should have left it where it was so the rat people could dispose of it and in the meantime ants and a magpie were trying to eat it. Keep testing to see what's what. 🙂

I don't quite understand why the H & S people think a type two diabetic should not work nights. Did they give a reason or is it company policy?

Hello @Stewman2k6 welcome to the forum.🙂 Don`t see anything wrong with a nice G&T for destressing, as TW says as long as the tonic is slimline.

Nightshift shouldn`t be a problem as @Drummer says, learn as much as you can about your condition (T2) and since you have found the forum use the vast knowledge of fellow members to help you.

Stress can cause a release of cortisol (the stress hormone) which certainly disrupt BG levels.

Different people seem to respond differently to different types of stress. Some find it makes BG rise, other stressful situations (eg for me, supermarket shopping with toddlers!) makes BG drop sharply.

Hope your work situation eases for you.
