I have not had a good day.

I spent most of the day going back and forth to the GPs surgery, trying to get a repeat prescription sorted out, ( started at 10.30 am ) finally got it sorted, only to find the local Pharmacist had no Metformin. So I had to go back out and try to find one that had it. I found one in the end and have only just got back from there, at 8.50.

The thing is, I have just noted that on the box, it says Metformin 500mg modified release; Metformin Hydrochloride 500 mg equivalent to 390 mg Metformin. I am now confused and even more irritated.

I also wish I could change GP and even more change my diabetic specialist nurse! I am afraid I cannot, until she agrees to me getting my driving licence back in January.

I have just been very naughty and had two HobNobs, they were very nice... 🙂

I have no idea what could constitute comfort food for for a diabetic. :(

Hi. Metformin MR or SR is better than standard Metformin as it reduces any bowel problems. To be honest Metformin never does a lot for blood sugar and dosage isn't critical. I'm not suggesting you ignore any prescription dosage but don't panic. Check with the pharmacist if you have any questions.

I am type 2 and was put on 500g once a day metformin 3/4 weeks ago. is it Ok for me to have a whisky or brandy with 150g of ginger ale at night as a nightcap before bed. my partner and I both like to relax with a nightcap and watch the news before bed. I am worried about warning on my metformin leaflet about lactic acidosis. I am not a daily drinker apart from a nightcap and do use a measure.

As long as it's sugar free ginger ale, it's fine, as is a 'reasonable' amount of alcohol - but of course alcohol always is 'empty' calories - ie no nutritional value whatever yet contains calories so if you happen to need to lose weight - not helpful.

Oh @Greymouser, I sympathise - I spent some fruitless hours getting a repeat prescription the other day too! Go on, have a lovely brandy & sugarfree ginger ale and enjoy it - I know I do 😉

My usual pharmacist is on holiday, but I will interrogate him when he returns. I will worry not, now the stress levels have lowered... As for Brandy, you can keep it, I am no fan. 😉 I prefer Woods Navy Rum and sugar free blackcurrant, ( or neat with ice, ) though to be honest would prefer some good Ale, which is a no no for now, though some beers claim to be low carb, but I think that is just wishful thinking. The biggest worry last night was the temptation to go to the Chippy to get some comfort food. 😳

@ Pine Marten: I have had to start two official complaints in the past regarding repeat prescriptions, without getting a good conclusion that lasted.

thanks for replying trophywench . I was really bad in the early hours one night last week. diariah feeling very sick bad stomach pains. havent had any alcohol since as I was afraid that could have caused it. meant 150 ml of ginger ale not g. it's not suger free as I cannot get that size can sugar free in the Isle of Man. also have my 91yr old Mum in hospital with things not looking good so I know it's stress putting my sugar up now also.
