Does anybody here ever get major cravings for certain foods?
I bet especially those that are 'off limits'.

I often do, and its never just one biscuit etc. its normally the box!!!
I believe its partially to do with being coeliac all my life - these things wern't around when I was younger!!! My mum is a lot worse though 😎
Then add diabetes to the mix makes everything off limits again now haha. 🙂

Currently craving meat, very very badly. Had to cook myself some bacon but its not satisfied me enough haah!

Hi Lizdiz.

Have you caught up with Lucy123's recent diagnosis after her hospital stay ?

What you describe sounds very much like what she has, which is very high insulin resistance causing a high release of insulin but slow action. So it allows your BGs to climb, bringing them down slowly and then not shutting off in time so that you go hypo afterwards.

She also suffers hunger all the time, which is another symptom.

It may be worth sending a PM to Lucy123 or better still, making an appointment to see your doctor and discussing it with him so you can see a specialist.

Hey Rob, thanks for directing me there! I have read it, and indeed thought it was very interesting! It does sound a lot like my symptoms!

However I still hypo when I don't eat for a long time (i.e. a few hours after waking without brekkie). I have a lot of other symptoms that are confusing too but perhaps this could be part of an underlying cause like my suspected mody.

I think I will mention it to my doctor next time, it will be interesting to see what he says. I often have a lot of theories I discuss with him but nothing ever gets sorted!

Liz 🙂

It sounds as though you may be better off trying to see another doctor. Some doctors do have very fixed ideas and seem to take it personally if their own views are questioned.

If he's listening but not following it up with tests or meds, then he is risking more than his reputation. You are clearly not getting the care you should and may need to be insistent. Easier said than done of course !:D

Good luck with it. No-one has all the answers but if your doctor fails to recognise that, it can leave you with serious problems.

He was actually the one to suggest it (kind of) and seems kinda settled on the idea? But doesn't know very much about testing etc. Maybe I ought to push what i've found out...

Try googling and print some stuff off that explains it. If he can see where you've got the info from he may trust it better.

I hope he does ok for you.

Rob

I think you should ask for a referral - if your symptoms are confusing and are not following a pattern that your GP recognises then you need to see someone who will have more knowledge in the problem area who may be able to suggest a solution.

Okay so i'm sure most people get chocolate cravings from time to time 🙂
However is it odd that it doesn't seem to spike me? I don't spike and fall quick nor do I spike later (that I know of), why could this be?

My recent tight blood sugar monitoring is showing me all kinds of patterns/interesting things about foods I eat 🙂

I've not really had much chocolate since I've been testing properly.

Could it be a slow release ? It will also depend on fat/sugar content and what else you'd eaten/drunk, what you were doing, etc.

But if it doesn't wobble the BGs then go for it as long the fat content isn't a problem. :D
