NHS bosses are planning for a 50% reduction in GP numbers across East London in the next five years, according to an STP leader.

North-east London STP clinical director and GP Sir Sam Everington revealed the shocking prediction to the House of Lords committee on NHS sustainability.

‘We have estimated within our STP that we are going to have half the number of GPs in five years' time,’ he said. ‘That's not something we choose to do. That's the reality of our analysis of how many GPs there will be around.’

Sir Sam told peers that medical schools should be incentivised to meet GP training targets, while health education budgets should be made accountable to STPs.

The government keep saying that local people with have a say but it doesn't seem to be happening. Numerous MP's bring this up time after time!

Oh I see what an STP is. How many layers of managers and planners does NHS England need?

I've seen similar initiatives tried but now they've wrapped it up in organisational gobble de gook like 'geographical footprints' and 'NHS transformation funding'. It's a poison chalice for the named individual. ('A named individual has been chosen to lead the development of each STP. Most come from clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) and NHS trusts and foundation trusts, but a small number of STP leaders come from local government'.)
It's laudable that they're looking at health and social care integration but doing it from the position of individuals from the NHS trying to reorganise other organisations with different structures and cultures is going to be a mammoth task (especially as there's no extra money, it's just about what they call 'system control totals' which basically translates to 'that's all you've got, make the most of it pal!'.

Cynical? Me? 🙄

Make the most of your budget, by arranging yet another layer of discussion groups, to save ploughing money into the sharp end. Good plan ......

Years ago when ages before I opted out (euphemism) of paid work, 'lean' management was all the rage which done properly (eg the Japanese way and it applied to Banking as well as industry) works fantastically well. However it does rely on only having people in the slimmed down management team who have FULL understanding and knowledge of what their business has to do to produce the product - a lot of them could don and overall and a hard hat and take their turn at the coalface should it become necessary, and also have to be prepared to do it if it does.

I rest my case .......
