I had heard about this at begining of the year and when i asked my doctors i was told it wouldn't be happening for a good while if at all.
Now im annoyed at the docs because my mom had a letter yesterday saying that anyone on mixtard30 has to be changed to another insulin before December 2010.
My mom uses the Innolet as due to her cerebal palsy, she cant hold the pen correctly to inject.

Not only has she now got to change her insulin, but also try to find a device that she can se, and the doctors havn't really given enough warning.

So does anyone have any sugestions as to what she could use?

Although it'as true that the only licenced use of pen devices is with the "right" insulin, in fact, many cartridges do fit into pens for which they are not licenced.
I reckon the best approach is for your Mom to meet with a diabetes specialist nurse, so she can try out other injection devices with her "new" insulin. It's almost impossible to say which device will suit which person - CP is different in every individual, so even what works for one person with CP won't nececcarily be right for your Mom.
Even if she doesn't get any new Mixtard 30 after December, there's nothing to stop her using up her current supplies, provided they will still be in date after end Dec 10.

The most like insulin that she can swap to is humalin M3, which is a 30/70 human mix, that is by Lily and can be put in the Luxura pen and also will be brought out in a kwikpen by the end of the year.

Or Lily make humalog mix 25 which comes in the kwikpen

Novomix30 is another option which comes in a flexpen or cartridges which fit the novopen4.

Other possibility is if she is a type 2 and can do without the bolus part she could try just insultard which will still be avaliable in the innolet.

Hope she finds something which can suit her.

Got a newletter in my pharmacy today - there is a petition you can sign to bring back mixtard! It has now stopped being produced, but they are supposedly making it so you can have other insulins in an Innolet device.
