Hi all

Been away for a while.
My basal has always been a huge thing for me. Didn't matter if I took 10-40 units it still seemed to do nothing so I have stopped taking it.

The results seem to be promising as I have to say that I have not had a significant rise to my sugars. I still wake up around 10mmol the same as I did when using basal insulin.

Could it be that my body just ignores it??

How very odd! Good to hear that your BGs have not risen massively, but that does kinda suggest something very strange was going on. I seem to remember someone else (DeusXM?) saying Lev had no effect on him too.

Have you always been on Levemir Megan?

Could be that you just don't get on/use that particular formulation.

Lantus, or one of the older long acting NPH/isophanes (insulatard/protaphane...) might be a very different story?

I have been on levemir, insulatard and another I cannot remember the name of. I have not tried lantus as I know that it can cause nasty stinging and I'm quite sensitive so apprehensive to try it.

None if the basals so far have managed to stop my dawn phenomenon. My bs rises from 4am onwards until about ten am and then slowly comes down.

Interestinger and interestinger... 😛

MDI does struggle with DP doesn't it... People do manage to work around in in various ways, but really only a fully flexible basal pattern is ever going to be able to tackle major DP fluctuations.

Have you ever thought about/asked about a pump? (apologies if this has come up already)

I have. However I'm actually t2 and so they will not even contemplate one for me even tho I really really want one.

I only have it down as t1 coz I can't be bothered to explain to people that I have insulin not tablets.

Some things are obviously still working as they should! 😉

Maybe we need a membership category "type 2 on insulin" so people don't feel a need to explain......

Ah OK. Though of course... there (numerically) are more T2s on insulin than T1s 😉
