Hi all
I've just got over a stomach bug and I'm completely flabbergasted with my blood sugars . i never ate any food and only drank water for 2 days but my sugar was in the 8s . just amazes me how the body works. anyone else had this.? what do you type 1s do when this happens.

Any illness can affect blood levels, Type 1's still take Insulin.

My blood sugar was high teens when I had a nasty virus recently, even with correction doses of insulin. I’d be happy with 8.

Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell @Karen999

Yes the body has all sorts of resources to draw on in times of illness to keep the system fuelled for the fight - unfortunately not quite so handy if the glucose-handling part of the metabolism is on the fritz.

I posted this information about diabetes during illness the other day, which explains what might be happening.

Hope you are feeling much better now 🙂
