Having just had my biopsy today it's occurred to me that I was told that I will need to make an appointment to have the stitches removed in 10 days. However, I'm off to visit my Dad in 9 days and will be away for a few days. Does anyone know whether it would be better to have them taken out earlier or later i.e. in 8 days or 15?

Personally I would say 8 days - 15 will probably be too long and they could go funny.

If the nurse doesn't think you are ready at 8 days she will soon tell you and maybe you could go to a walk in service near your dads if necessary?

You will know when ready - itching! Or at least thats what happens to me!🙂

I would agree about the eight days. You were very brave having five stitches. I hope that you are going to treat yourself today.

Get someone to look at the stitches on day 8 or 9 - if they decide it's OK to take out stitches, they will, but if not, you'll have to find a walk in centre - presumably in Netherlands? If they stay in too long, skin can "crust" over stitches, making them more difficult and uncomfortable to remove. But if they are taken out too soon, wound may burst open. If you go early, the nurse might take them out early, but apply steri-strips to hold edges together - you can peel thm off yourself, or they'll drop off eventually.

Or, if you're like me, and have taken lots of stitches out of lots of people over the decades, but not recommended if you haven't - take them out yourself on when you judge the optiumum day - was a bit interesting removing 2 stitches from my back waist band area after a mole removal, using a mirror and scapel blade. 🙂

I think as long as you look after the wound, and allow it to heal, it would be ok to have them out in 8. If you wait 15, it will likely to become very uncomfortable, and start pulling.

Thank you everyone, I will book an appointment for late next week 🙂 Actually, I was just thinking, I think these are the first stitches I've ever had in my life! When I broke my femur they used staples. 😱

The last major op I had which was 26 years ago and pre diabetes I had to have the stitches taken out early because I was healing over them.

Where will you have the stitces removed? Phone hem up and see. I don't imagine it will cause too many problems if you are not planning to exert yourself, or you could have them taken out near your dad at the correct time.

I would also say 8 days would be ok. Could you see your practice nurse, to take them out, when you see your doctor. Well done for being so brave.

Sorry, Alan. I thought you said you were visiting your dr in 9 days, when you said you would be visiting your father. I really must clean these glasses.hahhaaha:D
