Hello hope this finds you all well.
Being boring again.
I am having more spikes in my readings and am not sure why.
Previous two mornings after fasting I had mmol of 4.9.
This has spiked quite high for me during the evening resulting in frequent urination and today a spike of 11.9 mmol with feeling shaky and nauseous.
6.30 am usual breakfast of 2 eggs and an avocado. 12 pm lunch of organic chicken soup. 5.30 pm dinner of 2 eggs, onions, carrots, cabbage with a spoonful of Hunter Gatherer Mayonnaise - no sugar, avocado oil, free range egg yolk, apple cider vinegar and himalayan salt. Lunchtime being hungry I ate 3/4 of a 35 gram Ombar 100% chocolate bar no sugar.
On the bar the nutritional information is given below.
Can anyone tell me if no sugar chocolate can elevate glucose levels please.

Yes because there are still carbs, its carbs that raise BG not sugar, the amount of sugar only determines the speed of when it will hit your system

But then again it's not just food that causes a fluctuation in BG, they don't remain the same all day for anyone and stress along with a whole lot of other things can have an impact on levels

Well known things (apart from food) which (can) affect Blood Glucose include:
1. Infection
2. Stress
3. Lack of sleep
4. Dawn Phenomenon
5. Medicines including Steroids and Statins.
 
It depends on the carbs. Your bar seems to have very few carbs so it’s unlikely to have much effect at all.
 
As @Kaylz has said you need to focus on any carbs that are in what you eat. This includes the sugar. So it is not just sweet things that will impact on your glucose levels. Then add in the other factors that @ianf0ster has mentioned. It is amazing what a working pancreas does, when Diabetes kicks in we need to do the work ourselves.

Hi @NotPink, I can understand the confusion as you appear to be doing all of the right things!

It's important to note that different things impact different people in different ways. I've had things I was sure would cause a spike which didn't and things I thought were good for me that spiked!

One thing that may be helpful is to keep a food and mood diary. Nothing fancy, you can do it just for a week and note down what you're eating, how you're feeling and then your reading two hours after and see if there's any correlation with your spikes.
 
You're a braver soul than me trying 100% cocoa bars. I have tried a couple and would rather stick my tongue into a vat of molten tar than do it again!
 
That 11.9 does seem a very high reading from the foods you have mentioned @NotPink

It sounds like this is happening more than as a one-off (otherwise you might wonder about whether it was a duff strip). So it may be worth trying to have a chat to your GP about these significant glucose variations with a low carb eating plan?
