I posted a couple of days ago about my first Hypo, I am now wondering if after feeling fine all day, does going from feeling OK to being wiped out in 15 minutes seem the normal trend?. It just concerns me that it can happen that quick.

As you are not on any medication then I would say it is not usual to feel rough over a few minutes. However it can happen if people have eaten quite a high carb meal and their pancreas gets over enthusiastic and over produces insulin and levels drop quickly making you feel unwell. I would have a word with your nurse but in the meantime keeping a food diary to see if you can pin point any thing that could be causing it to happen, like a high carb food would help.

This actually was while I was cooking my meal, so I had not eaten. I do keep a log of everything I eat but (strangely) the day before I had my first ever meeting with my nurse for my foot check. She looked at my food log and readings and actually was surprised I done everyday for 3 weeks and actually said it looked as if I could just test AM and at Night or if I felt bad. I was really pleased almost as if things where going the right way and then this! Needless to say I'm back to testing fully before and after meals and at Night. It works out about 50 test strips a week and something I can't really afford to keep doing. I have asked the Dr (via email) if he can prescribe them as the Chemist said it can be done, however if he goes off my Nurses comments he will likely not agree to it on the basis I was told to cut back on testing.

As an added point I am on low carb now, well I think I am, it is under 130g a day anyway.

130g is a common suggestion for the start of a low carb diet, though several folks on the forum find the do slightly better on a bit less than that, or that it doesn’t seem to matter if they have a little more. It’s all very individual!

Ideally you’d use your intensive period of BG checks to work out which portion sizes and sources of carbohydrate are gentler on your BG levels, and then you’d be able to drop back to a far less frequent BG monitoring routine, just to keep an eye on how things were ticking over.

What sorts of levels are you seeing before and 2hrs after meals? And have you spotted any types of carbs that seem to give bigger rises?

My BG has been pretty level to be honest, in the first week I had one high reading above 7 that was 8.9 which I believe was breadcrumbs on fish. I have only had 2 lows the one that wiped me out at 3.3 and a 3.6 which I didn't even notice in any way except on a test. Other than than all have been between 4-7.
