PREDNISOLONE
At the beginning of December 2019 I was put on a reducing prednisolone steroid
8 X tablets 40mg for 1 week
7 X tablets 35mg for 1 week
6 X tablets 30mg for 2 weeks
5 X tablets 25mg for 2 weeks
4 X tablets 20mg for 2 weeks
3 X tablets 15mg for 2 weeks
I'm now on 2 X tablets 10mg for 2 weeks
then 1 X tablet 5mg for 2 weeks
I finish the tablets on 25th March

The steroids have interfered with my bgs giving me very high bgs at the beginning of December ~ I was on it straight away and increased my Tresiba ~ I was on 16u and I'm now on 26u! I was on 28u but decreased it to 26u yesterday 29th February.

The steroids have now also interfered with my eye sight ~ I went for my sight test on 19th February & the optician is referring me to the eye specialist ~ he saw specs of blood no major bleeds at the back of my eye/s but nothing to be alarmed about, I'm at risk of getting glaucoma & may have the start of cataracts.

Lovely to see you posting again Gill

Yes steroids are well known for increasing BG.

Hope the changes in your eyes remain ‘nothing to worry about’

Hi there, yes It's good to be back on the forum again ~ I've not posted since? Thank you for your reply.

I've got my eye specialist appointment on 12th March at York hospital ~ I'll report back after I've been if I can see & let you know how I've gone on

PREDNISOLONE ~ SIDE EFFECTS
I took a look in the prednisolone leaflet and also searched online
In the long list of side effects is
Glaucoma ~ which I'm at risk of getting
Cataracts ~ which I've got the start of
Blurred vision ~ which I've been getting at times more so over the last few weeks

I do realise that I may have already been getting these symptoms due to my poor control of diabetes over the years but I do think if so that the steroids have added to them.

On the other hand I had to be put on prednisolone for treatment of my Ulcerative colitis which was became very aggressive & turned into pancolitis ~ I can happily say that there is no more blood when I go to the toilet so hopefully the steroids have calmed things down

The short time you have been on steroids would not have caused the problems.
As you have already said you have very poor control of your diabetes, which is unfortunately the cause of your problems.
As you have been very high whilst on steroids this would blur your vision. So it's not the steroid it's your lack of action in bringing your numbers down. :(

Hopefully you wont need any more steroids so things will settle down again for you.
If you do unfortunately end up on them again then you now know that from day one you need to be very aggressive in keeping your numbers down.

The secret of steroid management is to bump up your basal as quickly as possible and then use corrections plus changing your carb ratio.
