I have been type 1 diabetic for 50 yrs and on statins for about 6 or 7. Over the past 3 years my weight rose from 9st 2 to 10st 10. Lately I experienced an ache strong enough to stop me climbing stairs and walking further than round the house. My doctor told me to stop the lipitor (statin) 4 days ago and I have since lost 3 lb. Hopefully all my size 12 clothes will soon fit again 🙂

Hi Neisha, welcome to the forum 🙂 Many people report problems with statins so you are not alone, although I think most people report side effects fairly soon after commencing them. Often a change to a different statin will be OK. Hadn't heard them associated with weight gain, but they are powerful drugs and if they were affecting your activity levels this may have been a factor.

Great to hear that you are now losing weight again - 3 pounds in 4 days is quite a lot in a very short space of time!

Please feel free to join in where you please. Everyone is very friendly, and I am sure you have lots of valuable experience you can share, I look forward to hearing more from you 🙂

I was first on statins many years ago and had severe muscle pains in my thighs too. I tried a couple of types but eventually had to stop them.

Since being diagnosed with Type 2, I am trying again at my GP's request, but with a different (and more expensive apparently) statin, as the benefits can be worthwhile. So far there has only been a small increase in muscle ache, and I have a blood test this week so we will see if the extra aching brings any benefits. I do wonder now if thats why I have not lost any weight in the last month.

So you are not alone, but statins are definately on the GP's tick box forms.
