Statins. again

The side effects of statins over diagnosed ... 50% of reports of side effects are nocebo/drucebo ... People influenced by fake news about statins ...

I was intrigued by the thread title and then disappointed you had left out a T. I'm about to go out but will read the article, later

Whilst I don’t doubt some of what the article says, I do find it incredibly irritating to be dismissed as “all in your head”
A better headline would surely be that some albeit a smaller number are indeed intolerant of statins.

It’s taken me 2 years to finally get my GP and DN to offer me Ezetemibe. Have tried 3 different statins and symptoms were definite muscle pain, muscle weakness and raised BS.
My last appt with DN telling me vehemently that Rosuvastatin (last one I tried) does not raise BS.
I’d preemptively taken screen shots of a self funded CGM showing it plainly does!
Also added that they even list it on the side effects now.
Number 10 of 1-10 common side effects, may cause type 2 diabetes.

Articles like these do not help the fight for the minority that suffer with statins.
I’m a very persistent person and 2 years was too long.
Should add that I’m fine with Ezetemibe. And my BS has indeed dropped.

Statins are excellent for those who can tolerate them, but for those who can’t it’s a hard battle.

Definitely not nocebo effect for me. I took statins for around 10 years, thinking all the pain suffered was attributable to my arthritis. Once I stopped the statins the reduction in pain was enough to stop taking the meloxicam I took for pain, and also the omeprazole I took because of taking the meloxicam.

I appreciate that many, many people take them with no side effects. The term "fake news" belittles those of us for whom it was anything but fake.

I was thinking it was going to be a post about a place near Heathrow

You took the words right out of my mouth. It must've been...

Looks like this might be the original paper?

And the full text:

I understand the frustration of those who genuinely have experienced significant adverse reactions. Especially where you may have had top battle with your surgery/nurse/GP for alternatives.

But I’m also aware that many newcomers arrive slightly terrified by the mere idea of statins - so it’s reassuring to know that when 4 million people were studied, the general likelihood of side effects was reassuringly low, and those with extra factors that made side effects more likely were fairly easily identified, and could be supported effectively.

There are side effects to all medications that affect people differently. I am fine with Statins 2.9 last cholesterol test but any other medication than metformin and I'm a mess!!!
