I have decided to start insulin as my bloods are still 8.1 and also due to my disability I have peripheral neuropathy anyway with reduced painful stimuli to feet and toes and dodgy circulation (blotchy patches when cold) so I have to be sensible.

Having said that I have joined a gym (local day centre) which is supervised and ideal for disabled folks. So by working out I hopefully will help the diabetes and the osteoporosis and of course weight loss. I have put on 6 lbs since late last year, so I need to lose it.

I hope that all goes well for you, do you know what insulin you will be on?

Nova something?. short lasting and long lasting sort. will know more next week. In the meantime I am testing myself again at dsn request to get a better view of my BG's.

Good news abou getting both short and long acting insulins, as the combination gives the most freedom in timing and doses. Sometimes people with type 2 are started on just long acting initially, then short actng is added after a few weeks. Doses are often low to start, then gradually increased.

From Vegan's description it might be mixed insulin to be taken twice daily with breakfast and tea/dinner such Novomix 30.

If it is that mixed kind Veganlass you will need a sensible dose adjustment programme such as the one published by Dundee.

Hope it's not mixed insulin, unless Veganlass lives a very routine life!

Yes mixed. Twice a day morning and evening. Short acting one which will last 4 hrs and 7hr to last over the day and repeat in the evening.

If you find it doesn't suit your lifestyle and mealtimes/sizes, don't be afraid to ask for more flexible insulins.🙂

But good on you for going for it.🙂
