Hiya 🙂

Started on my pump Wednesday, its all going well so far (only on saline atm). I changed my cannula all by myself yesterday! Was terrified and it took about half an hour for me to bring myself to do it, but I did it eventually!!!

I was wondering how I order more supplies? Is there a way I can do it online? I have only been given enough to last me a week. I use the Medtronic Minimed Paradigm Veo. Also how long does it take for them to arrive?

Not a pumper so can't answer your questions, just wanted to congratulate you on the pump and changing the first canula! Well done! 🙂 Before you know it I bet you'll be able to do it in seconds!

Thanks Northener! Feel quite chuffed with myself lol! :D
The day I can do it in seconds I'm going out for a meal to celebrate!!!

Hi Lauren

Your pump nurse will let you know your clinic's ordering procedure as some clinics like my we order our own and the bill is sent to clinic:D Others perfer their pumpers to go through clinic!

You'll soon get used to the set, cartridges changings etc... I remember the first time I changed my cartrige it took me almost an hour, with double and trebble checking each stage LOL, now I can to set and carridge change in about 5 minutes flat or less...

I went live straight on insulin, when you start on insulin don't be surprised if it all gets a bit emotional at times, I was very lucky as I got off to a good start with my pump... Kept reasonable stable BG's even though slightly higher over all, didn't suffer my usual daily hypo's (2-4 a day) not suffering the daily hypo's made so much difference as I stopped feeling constantly tired... After the first week I sobbed my heart out with Joy..

Then it can be a bit frustrating as you try to pin down your basal rates, but do the testing etc, you do get there..

If your first lot of HbA1c hasn't improved much or raised slightly, don't panic or feel that you've failed this is usual, as even though your day to day control is a lot better it probably a lot more reflective than MDI with lots of hypos and/or highs masking the figures...

Remeber one thing at a time, small steps when changing any setting, change too much in one go, you won't know what part work and what parts failed..

If you've haven't already invest in Pumping Insulin by John Walsh I would invest in it, as it's the pumpers bible a brillient resource for helping to understand pump therapy and getting the most out of our pumps..

Hi Lauren,

I use a Veo. Love it. Have you got funding yet? If you have then you can order your supplies over the phone. Normally they take about three working days to get to me. Maybe four or five if it's a bad time to order haha! I'd advise ordering when you have only a box of reservoirs and cannulas left. It's what I do and so far I've yet to run short.
I use the Silhouette cannulas but I'm giving the Quicksets another go with my next order. Which cannulas are you on?

Tom

Thanks guys 🙂

I'm using the Quick-Set, I think its good but I haven't tried anything else yet, I might try the sillhouette to see what its like.

I've just ordered online, hoping the supplies will come soon! How many sets come in a box? I just put the quantity to 3, so hoping it will be enough!

I'm switching to insulin on Sunday, wish me luck!!! :D

That should, in theory be three months worth of pumping. Mine lasts less than the stated time which doesn't surprise me at all. I like Silhouettes. I could post you one if you wanted me to do that. No guarantees on it happening soon though as I'm a dozy sod.

Tom

Hope it's all going well for you Lauren 🙂

I use Sils, I find them really reliable, I think mainly because I insert them manually. I like Mios too but had a few dodgy ones so I'm taking a break from them.

I think you get 10 in a box? So like Tom said, in theory 3 months - give or take a few for error 🙂

Thanks for all your help 🙂 I think my nurse said she would get me a few of the different sets, so don't worry about remembering to post me one Tom! Thanks very much for the offer though :D

Another question - when I shower and disconnect, should I suspend the pump?

There's no need really, it's only going to be a drop or two of insulin - a much better price to pay than forgetting to restart the pump afterwards 🙂
