The chief executive of Stafford Hospital is to retire and will leave her position by the end of May.

Lynn Hill-Tout started at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust in June 2011.

During that time she has overseen overnight closures of the accident and emergency department and dealt with serious financial problems.

Ms Hill-Tout has worked for the NHS for 39 years, and said it had been a "great privilege".

She said: "Throughout my career I have worked with dedicated and talented people who have worked to provide the very best healthcare for their patients and communities and this is particularly true of my colleagues at Mid Staffordshire".
