Hi! Something I heard today reminded me of the Springhill Diabetic summer camps run by the then British Diabetic Association (BDA), now Diabetes UK. My parents had joined up in 1965 on my diagnosis. I attended 2 in 1968 and 1969. They taught me such a lot. Anyone out there who remembers them?

They were still running them (dunno where) comparatively recently cos someone on here mentioned they'd volunteered and helped. They certainly were when I was diagnosed but being a married adult, just didn't apply to me.

What lovely memories @Jane O - and yes when I was first diagnosed DUK was still the British Diabetic Association too.

Diabetes UK still runs Family Weekender events and they are still as popular and life-changing as ever. With sessions to support parents and carers, as well as adventure and activities for the kids.

Also very enjoyable to volunteer at. Great to help the families, and also so good being one of the ‘normal’ ones as you are surrounded by people who also have T1. There are a few muggles there too which is great as they so often help the siblings of the children with T1. A full programme and a lot of fun, at the end of which you can see such transformations for all those involved.
