Personal trainer Luke Tillman, from Hampshire, will take part in a 10-mile run to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

Luke, 19, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 11, hopes to raise ?250 by completing the Bupa Great South Run in Portsmouth.

The fitness expert, 19, who has worked at a spa in Brockenhurst, in Hampshire, for more than a year, has been able to control his diabetes through regular exercise and wants to encourage others to make lifestyle changes to reduce the threat of developing the disease.

Type one ? Controlling his BG with exercise?

I think they've just left out a level of detail - my running certainly helps with my control by reducing the insulin doses I need, which in turn makes the effect of them more predictable. I still need insulin to cover carbs though!
