Does any one out there have a split Lantus injection regime? I used to split Levermir and understand that this is quite common. However I thought Lantus meant you only needed to inject once a day.

My diabetes consultant has just advised me to split my morning 18 units to 12 in the morning and 6 12 hours later.

I never split my lantus personally, but people do. It may be that you need more in the mornings for example, so by splitting you can weight the dose to when you need it most 🙂

Lantus is advertised/sold as a 24 hour insulin, but that isn't the case in probably quite a lot of folk, but ultimately its all about what your needs are in the day and in the night..........

if this is different, which it likely will be, then a split will help with this, and is perfectly possible on Lantus, although a tad less suited in comparison to Levemir.....

be willing to try anything..........🙂

I hope the split gives good results...

I split my lantus 10 and 4 and I have tried splitting levermir. To be honest I have been trying for a year to get my basal levels right and am no nearer. I seem to have rising levels for 3 hours when I get up and from 9pm until 1am.

Think of the second dose as a boost to counteract peaks in blood sugar not caused by food.

I split my lantus 7:30 12 units 19:30 6 units starting last Wednesday. The results have me totally confused especially as I spent 2 days trAvelling through France with irregular food breaks, the weather is hot, I've been bitten by Mosquitos, and I've actually done some exercise. I expected the BS to be all over the place. No its been between 5.5 and 7.8 before meals and between meals.

Yup, started doing it in my first pregnancy under guidance from my team, and haven't gone back.

It helped me with better all day coverage (frm vague memory, late afternoon highs were an issue) and is better than once a day, for me.

Great news Martin! Long may it continue :D

Lantus really only covers approx 22 hours not 24. I heard that Lantus isn't licenced to be split.
